Wait, Could Killmonger Be Back For Black Panther 2 After All?

At the end of the now Oscar-nominated Black Panther, Michael B. Jordans Erik Killmonger met his tragic end. That seemingly made it unlikely that we would ever see him again, but you never say never, because maybe Killmonger could be back for Black Panther 2 after all. When Black Panther actress Angela Bassett was asked if all of the cast would be returning for the sequel, her husband Courtney B. Vance butted in and said this:

Yes, just go ahead and say it, yes! Everyone will be there, including Michael B.

Oh boy. Is there some sort of spousal privilege thing at play or will Marvel hold Angela Bassett accountable for the actions of her husband? Speaking with ET at the SAG Awards Courtney B. Vance had no qualms about just coming out and saying matter-of-factly that all of the Black Panther cast will return for the sequel, including Michael B., and unless he is referring to a below-the-line Michael B., which seems unlikely, he means Michael B. Jordan.

Now this could be purely conjecture on the part of Courtney B. Vance. Last we heard, Ryan Coogler had signed on to return to write and direct, but we dont know how far along that script is. That said, he could already know the overall story idea, and its not impossible that Courtney B. Vance knows some things that we dont.

Considering where Black Panther left the character (dead) and how little we know about Black Panther 2 at the moment, this would obviously be a huge deal if true. Michael B. Jordan gave us one of the best comic book movie villains weve ever seen with Erik Killmonger and it would be kind of sad if we only got one movie with him, similar to Heath Ledgers Joker (for different reasons, of course).

If Courtney B. Vance really let a spoiler slip here, there are some huge questions as to how exactly NJadaka will be in this movie after he willingly chose death over bondage at the end of the first film. Weve speculated about Killmongers death being retconned through whatever time-travel/Quantum Realm shenanigans take place in Avengers: Endgame. The snapped heroes are certainly coming back, so it wouldnt be impossible. These are comic book movies after all.

Yet, Killmonger had such a great arc in Black Panther, that to bring him back to life might cheapen the poetic ending of that film. But Killmonger doesnt need to be resurrected for Michael B. Jordan to be in Black Panther 2. He could easily appear in flashbacks. But I think it's more likely that he could appear to TChalla in visions, either taunting him or acting as a voice in his head as he weighs out kingly decisions.

Killmonger also went to the Ancestral Plane by taking the Heart-Shaped Herb. Maybe, pending they figure out how to bring back the herb, TChalla could meet his cousin in this realm.

Marvel fans have always been attentive - just look at all the references the filmmakers packed into Avengers: Endgame to provide us with a rewarding experience after going out to see MCU movies for over a decade. However, there is such a thing as reading too much into a characters screen time, which is perhaps what fans have done with a bit from Nick Furys backstory in Captain Marvel.

In a scene in Carol Danvers origin movie, she sits across from a digitally de-aged Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury as he attempts to convince her that hes not a shapeshifted Skrull. As they get to know each other, Carol asks him to name a detail so bizarre a Skrull could never fabricate it to which Fury opens up about his inability to eat diagonally-cut toast.

The answer sparked a theory when fans referenced a scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron in which Fury is at Hawkeyes farmhouse, makes himself a sandwich and then cuts the bread diagonally!! So obviously, fans think present-day Fury is a Skrull in disguise.

In a recent interview with ET, the Captain Marvel directors were asked to address the theory and heres what they said:

Anna Boden: Well, there are two options here. Either Fury became a Skrull or he got over his weird fear of diagonally cut toast, and we'll never know the truth. [Laughs]Ryan Fleck: He actually became okay with people calling him Nick. So, you know, either he's a Skrull or he just changed, like we all do.

Does anyone else feel like theyre trying to confuse us more? The pair of directors do bring up a good point; Nick may have just changed his mind about diagonally-cut toast between the 90s and Age of Ultron, just as he became a more hardened as the years went on. However, the change in his demeanor is much of the reason why fans believe Fury is really a Skrull.

Another supporting idea for the Fury Skrull theory is that four of them landed on the beach in Captain Marvel and only three were ever seen again. Could it be true? The Skrulls did end up to be the good guys in the Kree-Skrull war, but maybe they wanted to be behind the Avengers Initiative? Wouldnt that be quite the plot twist! The question would then be what happened to the real Nick Fury we met in Captain Marvel? Maybe it would explain why he never called on Carol for help in the previous Marvel films before Endgame.

Or perhaps this is just a random situation that the MCU forgot to fact check before the release of Captain Marvel. It is a pretty deep cut (pun intended) that most fans would not have noticed or remembered upon Fury bringing it up.

Maybe we'll get some answers when Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role as Nick Fury in Spider-Man: Far From Home, coming to theaters on July 2.




The question would then be what happened to the real Nick Fury we met in Captain Marvel? Maybe it would explain why he never called on Carol for help in the previous Marvel films before Endgame . Or perhaps this is just a random situation that the MCU forgot to fact check before the release of Captain Marvel .

10 Awesome Movies You Need To Watch Before They Leave Netflix In March

Every month, Netflix does a sort of dance with its subscribers. They add brand new content for the folks at home to enjoy, while at the same time they take away movies that their viewers may want to have watched before they said goodbye. It's a cycle that cannot be stopped, and as such we feel it's part of our job as an entertainment news provider to help you catch the more important films leaving the queue. Which is why we're here yet again with a list of several movies that deserve another watch through, before leaving this digital coil.

If you're curious about our selections for what left us in February, feel free to read them at your leisure. Now though, it's time to see who's March-ing on and out the door through next month's cycle.

AnastasiaWhile she's not a Disney princess, Anastasia's main character is a figure of historical legend. A musical adventure romp that tells a very fictionalized account of the woman who was claimed to be the last of the Romanov royal family, this one's a cult classic for animation fans. So much so that there's currently a more grounded Broadway musical based off of the film, and the true story, but still using the memorable songs from Anastasia's soundtrack. You should take this journey to the past while you can, without the bother of remembering to keep this clamshell out of your Disney collection.

JawsIf you're a true Steven Spielberg fan, you're probably hungry for something between his Academy Award nominated picture The Post and his would-be blockbuster Ready Player One. While the latter film won't be out until the end of March, we can definitely recommend Jaws as an appetizer between the director's latest efforts. Though even if you're not a dyed in the wool Spielberg devotee, you can't go wrong with this classic blockbuster as a hint of the summer season, with its big-ticket thrills.

MementoBefore he made a career out of superhero action and IMAX sized thrills, Christopher Nolan shocked the world with his innovative thriller Memento. Told in reverse chronological order, the mystery surrounding the murder of protagonist Leonard's wife unfolds with a backwards motion. All the while Guy Pearce's portrayal of Leonard keeps the audience on its toes, as we know where his character is going, while we don't know where he's been. While only being his second film, Nolan's prowess as a film-maker and storyteller is in full throttle with Memento.

The CraftAfter 20 years of casting its spell on the world, The Craft is still light as feather and stiff as a board, which makes the film's departure from the big red queue a little bit bittersweet. While the die-hard fans of this tale of magical power, and both the perks and pitfalls it entails, probably own this film in three different formats, being on a streaming service like Netflix undoubtedly helps win new fans of all sorts. So if you're going to keep spreading the gospel of The Craft after next month's purge, you're probably going to have to part with your own copy more than you would like in the near future.

Disney's The Santa ClauseOk, so Disney's The Santa Clause isn't exactly in season; so the departure of Tim Allen's trilogy of holiday hijinks isn't an ill-timed affair. That said, there's probably still some folks out there that want to hold onto the Christmas magic, even as February comes to a close and March continues to warm things up. If you're one of those people, we won't judge. Just keep in mind that all three of these films will be leaving before the end of the month, and eggnog only stays fresh for so long.

ZootopiaIt used to be that you could count on a Disney movie like Zootopia to hit Netflix's streaming library not too long after it went to home video. All of that is changing though, with Disney's plans to launch their own streaming service in the works, the age of the Disney / Netflix love fest is coming to an end. So with the departure of Nick and Judy's wild adventure in town, you'll probably be in the market for a physical copy in the near future. For now though, you can binge as many viewings of Zootopia as you want before Netflix takes away your toys.

Who Framed Roger RabbitAs a kid, watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit is an exciting ride of animated thrills, spills, and laughs. After becoming an adult though, the Robert Zemeckis-directed classic is an impressive noir tinged mystery that upholds the genre's tropes to a tee, while seamlessly blending animated characters with human counterparts. No matter how you look at it, it's a timeless film that's earned its reputation of excellence and fandom. Not to mention, you can never go wrong with a murder case that involves a wisecracking rabbit in a bow tie.

The Life Aquatic with Steve ZissouWes Anderson and Bill Murray are like cinematic Peanut Butter and Jelly. Like any good director and their acting muse, the two have gone on to make memorable moments in almost each film of Anderson's filmography. One of the quirkier entries into that canon is The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, in which Murray plays a brash oceanographer who reconnects with his long estranged son, played by Owen Wilson. Throw in some clashes with pirates, sweet acoustic David Bowie covers, and a rather remarkable shark, and you wouldn't even need the role of Jeff Goldblum as a professional rival to spice things up. Seeing as this film has that as well, there's really no reason not to be watching this right now.

In Like FlintSometimes Netflix has the slightly annoying habit of having single installments of a multi-entry franchise. In Like Flint is one of those occasions, where the sequel to Our Man Flint is the one that's available for streaming, without its forerunner being given the same treatment. Though thankfully, the two films are as tightly connected as most of the classic James Bond films they're spoofing. So if you're looking for some swinging 60's spy sensations, your mission is clear: watch In Like Flint before March is out, and thank us later for the recommendation!

The Good SonDuring their peak as child actors, Elijah Wood and Macaulay Culkin made a thriller that was as chilling as it was fun, and that film is The Good Son. While you'd probably have a hard time making something as dark and R-rated as a young child torturing his family, and in some cases killing certain members who stand in his way. The movie serves not only as an interesting time capsule for Wood and Culkin's early careers, it also stands as an obscure gem of the sorts of twisted thrillers the 90's was really good at providing audiences on a wide scale level.

How The Avatar Crew Feels About Fox Selling To Disney

Avatar is the highest-grossing movie of all time, which also makes it 20th Century Fox's highest-grossing movie. It's certainly something the studio had a right to brag about. But now Disney owns Fox, and James Cameron can no longer lean on his tight relationship with Rupert Murdoch and family. That relationship started with Aliens back in 1986 and was meant to continue through the upcoming Avatar sequels.

So how does the Avatar team feel about Fox now being owned by Disney? Bittersweet is one word to describe it. Here's what Titanic and Avatar producer Jon Landau had to say:

We're very sad the Murdochs chose to sell the company. But if they're going to sell the company, there's nobody better than Disney to sell it to. They get Avatar in terms of what its potential is, not just as a movie but as a franchise.

And Disney has enough money to fund it all, so that helps.

Jon Landau is James Cameron's producer at Lightstorm Entertainment, and he stayed positive and hopeful in his quote to The Hollywood Reporter. As THR noted, James Cameron had an unusually strong bond with Fox's Murdochs -- in one example, they gave him the extra time he needed for the much-delayed Titanic, which certainly paid off -- and now he's working for Disney. Disney is a place where IP like Marvel and Star Wars are the real stars and he's not likely to have any kind of special relationship like he enjoyed with the Murdochs.

However, the Avatar team has already worked with Disney on past projects, including theme parks, so it's not like they are all strangers starting from scratch.

There are four planned sequels to Avatar, which made $2,787,965,087 worldwide after its December 2009 release. A couple of months ago, producer Jon Landau said each movie would be a standalone movie, and you won't have had to see Avatar to enjoy Avatar 2. (But is there anyone left who hasn't seen Avatar?)

In 2016, James Cameron said the storyline of the sequels would follow Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and their children, as more of a family saga about the struggle with the humans.

In January 2019, Disney CEO Bob Iger referenced two Avatar sequels on the way, but noted Disney hadn't given Avatar 4 and 5 the green light at that point. However, Jon Landau followed that by saying Iger's quotes may have been misinterpreted --- telling HeyUGuys not only were Avatar 4 and 5 greenlit, they had already filmed part of Avatar 4.

In February, Jon Landau told Collider the performance-capture parts of Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 -- and part of Avatar 4 -- were complete. He said they would be filming the live-action portions in New Zealand this spring, aka right about now.

Just recently in late March, Jon Landau told THR they were moving forward on production the same way they were before the Disney/Fox deal officially closed last week.

Way back in 2006, James Cameron had said if Avatar was successful, he wanted to make two sequels. Well, it did pretty well. Sequels were originally scheduled for 2014 and 2015. Obviously that didn't happen, and future dates also didn't pan out.

James Cameron is no stranger to delays, and no stranger to gigantic blockbusters. The good news is that technology has advanced so much in the past decade that the sequels should be more impressive than ever.
