Intriguing Avengers: Endgame Theory Connects Cap And Tony's Endings

Captain America and Iron Man have been two pillars of the MCU since the very beginning. Both of their journeys are likely to end in Avengers: Endgame, partly because it's a finale, and partly because contracts are up. While waiting for more (or any) plot details, fans are filling the void with their own theories. One fan has posted their own intriguing take on what will happen to Cap and Iron Man and how parenthood and sacrifice will play a role.

Tony and Cap may not be speaking to each other at the moment, but one Reddit user thinks that the two of them will be the most important characters in Avengers: Endgame and together, they will cause the death of Thanos.

The Redditor puts a big emphasis on parenthood and sacrifice, which are key to Cap and Tony's character arcs. In the case of Iron Man, family has been a big part of his journey in Phase 3. The death of his parents by Bucky fueled his feud with Cap; he finds a son-figure in Peter Parker; and he wants to have a child with Pepper Potts.

For Cap, family is something that he used to want. He wanted to settle down and start a family with Peggy Carter, but had to sacrifice what he wanted so that everyone else could live. Trading lives is a theme in Avengers: Infinity War and while Cap says they "don't trade lives," it's something that he personally has done and is willing to do again.

As the theory goes, a pregnant Pepper will suit up as Rescue in the final battle against Thanos. Not a great decision on her part, but when the world is about to end, anything goes. At some point in the battle, Thanos is about to lay the death blow on Pepper, but Steve intercepts, sacrificing his life for Pepper and the baby.

This will enrage Tony, who fights Thanos one final time. Tony realizes that he "didn't deserve that sacrifice" and fights to earn it, finally embodying what it means to be a hero. The Redditor points out that Tony wavers between what is right and what is self-beneficial in his own movies, so this will be a true hero moment.

Finally, Tony will wield Cap's shield and will be the one to say "Avengers Assemble," and kill Thanos. Tony will then retire to start a family.

It's a pretty cool theory, when all is said and done. I like emphasizing the parenthood theme that both characters have. Will it actually happen? Probably not, but like any fan theory it sounds cool on paper!

We'll know for sure what happens in Avengers: Endgame when the movie finally releases on April 26, 2019.

It's no secret that superhero movies are everywhere. The genre is extremely popular, and able to make massive sums of money at the box office. If the fans are behind it, that is. With so many comic book adaptations in theaters, studios are challenged to craft blockbusters unique perspective, that will set it apart from the already bloated genre. Luckily for Warner Bros., DC is breaking new ground with David Sandberg's upcoming origin story Shazam!

Shazam! will bring the titular DC superhero to the big screen for the first time, and will tell a story with plenty of heart and comedy. Zachary Levi is playing one half the title character, as he'll be the heroic persona of 14-year old Billy Batson. There was a time when the character Shazam used to be called Captain Marvel, so the DC and Marvel rivalry has been once again heating up for each heroes' big movie. But Levi doesn't want to hear it, especially when it comes to throwing hate Brie Larson's way. As he tells it:

It came to my attention, what was going on, because I was on Twitter or something. And I was getting added by people that were saying what was very clearly fictitious, defaming things about Brie and about Captain Marvel. Im not affiliated with anything; Ive known Brie over the years and I think shes delightful and talented. By the way she doesnt need anybody sticking up for her. I was trying to talk to people who thought they were doing me a favor. They were like Were not gonna see that, were gonna see Shazam!. You can just say you want to see Shazam!. You dont have to go and speak ill of someone else in order to raise me or this movie up.

And just like that, Shazam has spoken. Because while Marvel and DC may have fought over the title of "Captain Marvel", Zachary Levi doesn't feel that sort of rivalry with Brie Larson's Marvel blockbuster. And he doesn't want his success to be at the cost of another comic book movie.

Zachary Levi's comments come from his recent conversation with The Associated Press ahead of Shazam!'s release. Comic book fans are very passionate, and the rivalry between DC and Marvel has been going on for decades. But Captain Marvel was met with a particular level of hate ahead of its release, and that's not something that Levi wants any part of.

The rivalry between Shazam! and Captain Marvel comes from the comic book origins, where the mantle of "Captain Marvel" was fought for by both DC and Marvel comics. The name was originally held by the character played by Zachary Levi, while Carol Danvers went by Ms. Marvel. Eventually legal issues hampered the original character, and Marvel comics scooped up the name. As such, DC renamed the character Shazam.

The hate for Captain Marvel was due to Brie Larson's comments about diversity in the press. But that didn't stop the movie from getting solid reviews and making a ton of money at the box office. Now we'll just have to see if Shazam! follows suit.

Zachary Levi was perfect casting to play the child in a man's body that is the superhero Shazam. However, Levi didn't necessarily have the body of a superhero when he was cast in the role. The actor has spoken a lot about what he had to go through to be believable as a superhero. It required a lot of work on his part, but a large amount of that work was actually eating.

While Zachary Levi spent a lot of time at the gym, as you would expect, that gym work was designed to convert calories into muscle, and so he had to consume a massive amount of calories in addition to his workouts. According to Levi...

I got the job and I was in the gym 5-6 days a week. When I was trying to build mass, youve got to eat a lot of calories, 3,500-3,700 calories a day. And they have to be really clean calories, they cant just be Hagen-Dazs!

A fairly standard adult diet would be something around 2,000 calories a day, which means that Zachary Levi was eating nearly double that along with working out nearly every day of the week. On the one hand, working out that much is going to require a pretty impressive calorie intake to keep you from feeling perpetually starved, but that's still a crazy amount of food.

If you could eat anything you wanted then eating that much might not be all that bad, but as Zachary Levi tells People, it's not like he just sat around and ate ice cream. I mean, it's dairy so there's some protein in ice cream, but there was probably a lot more meat and other more serious protein sources included. Levi has said his diet was basically meat and vegetables five times a day, and considering the calorie count, these were probably pretty close to full meals five times a day. Even with the hunger that you get from working out, I can imagine around meal number five eating more food is not what you'd want to spend your time doing, but it's just as necessary as the exercise.

Being a movie star may be largely as glamorous as it appears to be, but sometimes there is some pretty serious work to be done. Levi says it was a dream come true to play the lead in a superhero movie but the guy had to work to make that dream a reality. While looking like a superhero can be done with padded suits and CGI, to feel like a superhero, you've got to still do a lot of the real work.

On the plus side, if you do throw in some ice cream, you probably burn it off pretty quickly based on how much you're working out.

Based on Shazam!'s opening weekend success, it looks like all the hard work was worth it. The film grossed over $50 million in North America and broke the $100 million mark in total overseas business. It's another big hit for DC following Aquaman and Wonder Woman.

The X-Men franchise has produced a number of notable films over the years, but few can compare to X-Men: Days of Future Past. The 2014 time travel romp has become widely regarded as one of the series' best installments, with airtight storytelling and some awesome set pieces. That said, there are some issues with the plot that fans have questioned over the years, such as the decision to have Mystique stand in for William Stryker at the end of the movie and save Wolverine. Many fans have wondered why that ending was chosen, and Bryan Singer recently took to his Instagram account to explain how it ties into her X-Men: Apocalypse arc. Addressing the late addition to the film, Singer said:

I caught your question on #reddit I have to be honest, the idea to have #stryker 's eyes turn yellow was added to the film very close to its completion. However I ended up liking it because it showed #mystique 's path of secretly helping mutants. In that case #wolverine It is a path that continues into #xmenapocalypse

As you may recall, the moment in question comes during the final moments of X-Men: Days of Future Past when Charles Xavier's narration closes out the film. He makes a remark about the future not being set in stone while we see Wolverine rescued from the Potomac River in Washington D.C., at which point it's revealed that a disguised Mystique was the one who got him out of the water, not the United States government. It's played as a massive twist ending for the movie (as Wolverine's history in the Weapon X program is a massive plot point in the franchise), but as Bryan Singer explained in his recent post, this was a last-minute change that telegraphed Mystique's arc in the subsequent film.

From there, it seems likely that we will see Mystique's arc continue to X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which is set to premiere next year. The blue heroine makes some bold leaps from X-Men: First Class to X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse, so there's a reasonably good chance that the 1990s-set mutant adventure will adequately round out her trajectory as a character. Perhaps Dark Phoenix will also offer up an explanation of how Wolverine still ended up in the real Stryker's custody by the time Apocalypse rolled around, which is something that still has yet to be explained.
